Rural Areas

Water scarcity ranks among the most pressing global challenges of the 21st century due to its effects on public health, economies and environment.

Most rural areas have high water scarcity due to lack of sufficient water infrastructure. Communities rely on natural water sources like rivers and streams for their water needs. In most instances they share these water sources with animals.

More often, these communities have to travel long distances to get to their water sources. Because the water comes from natural sources, the quality of the water is never guaranteed.

During drought periods, desperation and competition for water is even more intense.

This situation poses ongoing health risks which could lead to an outbreak of disease. Bad terrain and long distances often mean that water infrastructure provision takes a long time to roll out. Authorities need to be able to manage any water borne risks and adopt preventative strategies in their rural water management efforts.

A Decentralised Water Solution

Greware provides an integrated water supply solution to enhance potable water provision to water scares rural communities. This is fulfilled through a mobile water solution as a water supply intermediary.

Greware’s mobile water solution is a simplified integrated urban water supply management system which provides water treatment through a mobile membranebased water treatment facility, and subsequently transported to communities through fit-for-purpose water tankers.

A mobile membrane filtration system is a decentralised form of water provision which requires limited infrastructure for water provision. It short-circuits the water supply value chain process and presents a more flexible and affordable form of water provision.
